On July 11th from 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm in Riley Park Community Garden, VFTP will be hosting an event that features live music, charcuterie-type snacks with desserts and pastries, as well as refreshments. This is a great opportunity for existing, new and interested community members to connect and learn more about the organization as well as learn about local fruit.
Who are they and what do they do?
The Vancouver Fruit Tree Project (VFTP) is an organization that reduces fruit waste and redistributes it within the community. They harvest backyard fruit trees and deliver the fruit to other organizations and charities within the community. These organizations share the fruit with community members who do not usually have access to fresh produce.
Check out our collaboration with VFTP during Apple Day 2023 in the garden:
The VFTP has harvested a total of 105,996 lbs of fruit and has 427 registered tree owners. Last year, they gave LMNHS 1,007 lbs of fruit! This year marks their 25th year running, so they have partnered with RPCG to host a Season Kick-off party in the garden!
We hope to see you there! Click here to learn more about the VFTP.
