This week at the garden: more harvesting and prepping the beds for fall. Also seeing the start of new fall crops.
We harvested some lovely leeks, holy basil, baby kale, Hakurei turnips, loads of beans and some cherry tomatoes — as well as some beautiful flowers!
Finally, a crop of apples from our orchard! This is a beautiful Granny Smith.
Some beautiful Sungold tomatoes fresh off the vine.
The beginnings of some tiny Brussels sprouts peeking out from the leaf axils, grown from our compost tea.
Taking the tops off the bean plants to encourage the remaining beans to ripen before the weather deteriorates.
Removing yellowing leaves from the green onions and leeks to prevent the spread of allium rust, an airborne virus that can attack the whole allium family.
At the end of Wednesday’s work party, we celebrated Alex’s birthday with a beautiful cake made by Angela’s daughter Cat.
