Wednesday, June 21 marked two important coinciding events: National Indigenous Peoples Day and the summer solstice. What better way to celebrate than tending to the Coast Salish land we live on during the longest day of the year.
We harvested a variety of crops, including stem lettuce, bok choy, chives, arugula, raddicchio, garlic chives, berries, and thyme, to name a few. Gardeners also had a selection of wildflowers to choose from.
We turned the compost from Bin 1 to 2 today, and then half filled Bin 1 again, adding some coffee grounds kindly donated by Matchstick Coffee.
The pitcher plants are growing nicely in the bog planter!
We had a great turnout this week! At the end of the work party, all of the gardeners shared a picnic lunch containing pickled vegetables and hummus made from garden produce. Here’s the recipe for the delicious pickled stem lettuce (celtuce) that Alex made.
