Work Party at the Garden
On a very warm muggy late August day, we harvested tomatoes, cucumbers, zucchini, squash, green beans, cabbage, basil, chives, & parsley.
The vegetables of the day were tied with the yard long Armenian cucumber & Trombocino zucchini, both shared among volunteers.
Seeds planted were Daikon radish and Swiss Chard.

Many plants start to look ‘tired’ this time of year and some develop powdery mildew, this is normal and does not require any intervention, other than cut off some of the dried up leaves. A lot of weeding was done, they are all still thriving!
The Broad Bean plot is now ready for a planting later this fall.
The ice cream sandwiches for our snack was a welcome treat!
Zucchini, cucumber, squash, & tomatoes are in the Fieldhouse fridge for Food Distribution on Friday.
We are all looking forward to the forecasted rain later this week, and have turned the irrigation system off for now. Moisture level was checked in the veggie beds and there is ample moisture.
A group met to discuss opportunities for generating renewable energy at Riley Park, fingers crossed we get a NMF grant come fall!!
